Merry Xmas from Sean Taylor

Hello friends
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and all that other Seasonal Stuff.
2013 has been my best year yet, with my new album 'Chase The Night' released, two great UK tours and a magical tour of Australia. The first few months of the year were spent finishing off the album which was recorded in Austin, Texas with the incredible Mark Hallman and featuring legendary double bass player Danny Thompson. 'Chase The Night' is the best album I have done and the response has mirrored this.
After my tour of Australia in March, I came back to England and recorded a great session with Bob Harris for BBC Radio 2 . In April, I toured with the wonderful Chuck Prophet on his huge UK tour. My own UK tour kicked off in May playing both solo and with the amazing percussionist James Taylor.
In June and July, I did a few shows with the incredible Dick Gaughan, one of my heroes and a top fella. Then the next few months I put the finishing touches to my album with a great photo shoot with Peter Dunwell  and amazing design work from Niall McCormack.
I also worked again with sensational Irish filmaker Colm McCarthy on my first ever spoken word piece, 'River'. There have been a lot of requests for the lyrics to 'River' so I have set up a page for them here  ...
In September my second UK tour kicked off with loads of dates including two unforgettable shows with Danny Thompson one of the most incredible musicians ever and a lovely person as well.
As the tour gathered pace more and more gigs came in, including a special performance for Liverpool FC TV ... view here    .
Great sessions also on Jazz FM and overall, the most airplay I’ve ever had, including Bob Harris, BBC Radio Ulster and BBC Radio Wales,  BBC Introducing, and featured artist on Tom Robinson's Fresh on The Net.
Then in November my new single a version of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' was released for the Hillsborough Justice Campaign . All profits go to the HJC, you can buy it here . It’s available online and at the HJC shop in Anfield, in return for a donation. The single received a great endorsement from another hero of mine Billy Bragg, see below.
See you in 2014 - which is looking dandy, with tours of France, Holland, Spain, Finland, and the UK already sorted. Tickets on sale here

Sean Taylor Charity single

Hello friends
I hope all is well. There has been a continued incredible response to the album. See here
I have just released a charity single for the Hillsborough Justice Campaign ... website here .A version of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' with 'Silent Night' as the B Side ... It's out now on Itunes

Here is the story of the single

During a recent tour of the UK, I performed a version of the Liverpool Football Club anthem 'You'll Never Walk Alone' on LFC TV. The response to the performance was so positive and overwhelming that I decided to release the song with the addition of a B Side version of 'Silent Night' recorded in Austin, TX.
All profits from the single will go to the Hillsborough Justice Campaign (HJC). The HJC includes those bereaved by and survivors of the Hillsborough Disaster as well as supporters of the continued fight for justice.
I am lifelong Liverpool FC fan..... But everyone should support the HJC.

Sean Taylor - new album 'Chase The Night' out now

My new album is released on Monday you can order here  ...  The  tour is in full swing with lots of shows coming up See here  ... There has already been a great response to the album

Chase The Night is the best album I have ever made. below is the story of how it came to be

'The Sun went down, the smoke rose up, as from
          A half-unquench’d volcano, o’er as space
Which well beseem’d the ‘Devil’s drawing room’
                                                                                     - George Byron ‘Arriving at London’

‘Chase The Night’ is a lyric for London, a poem for the polis and an ode to the ocean of lights burning eternal.  Bless the wild of the night, bless the flame in your eyes, our spirits are defined by the poetry of the night.

The album was born with me in London. It is a celebration of my home - from the drinkers of Kilburn, to the ravers of Brixton, from the bohemia of Camden, to the golden glow of the Thames.
I write this as night curls around Primrose Hill with a view over the valley and sparkles like a thousand fire flies. Beneath a light drizzle that reflects on the street with a smear of cars blurred amber in the falling glow. Below us the landmarks of London stand tall as ever - St Paul’s, the London Eye, the BT Tower, Canary Wharf, the broken Shard, and the city that never rests.

This album is written through the prism of my life as a troubadour, travelling from town to town finding stories for the songs. As night buses begin to weave their way through the London streets a thousand melodies begin and end with every breath.

The album was recorded with producer Mark Hallman (Carole King, Ani-DiFranco & Eliza Gilkyson) in Austin, Texas. It features the legendary Danny Thompson (John Martyn, Nick Drake, Pentangle) on double bass.

‘Chase The Night’ is the album I have always wanted to make. It is about who I am and where I’m from
It is dedicated to the poets, the lovers, and the dreamers. Every angel headed hipster seeking truth in beauty, rave on.

Sean Taylor new single out now

Hello
It's Sean Taylor. How's it going? I hope all is well.
Today my debut single 'London' (featuring Danny Thompson) is released on ITunes & Amazon
I will be playing a few shows with Danny in October

There has already been an incredible reaction to 'London'. It was played on Bob Harris' BBC Radio 2 show, Folk Radio UK, on Resonance FM, Raven N Blues, Roots N Branches & TunAtheday. It was also featured on The Londonist website

This is the story behind the song:

I began writing my debut single 'London' on a rainy Soho evening. It is a celebration of my hometown and the neon glitter of the London night. As the song unfolds we are taken on an all-night trip from the West End to Brixton, passing through Terry and Julie’s ‘Waterloo Sunset’ en route.
The song was completed in Austin, Texas, with producer Mark Hallman (Carole King, Ani-Di Franco) in a late night recording session laced with whiskey.

Once the song was written and recorded it was missing one thing: double bass legend Danny Thompson    (John Martyn, Nick Drake, and Pentangle) one of the most incredible musicians ever.

The B-side is the blues inflected Love Bleeds; another new song featuring soaring blues harmonica and funky guitar.

My new album 'Chase The Night' is released in September. Pre-order here  ...

UK tour kicks off on Thursday 25 October

Hello all

It's Sean Taylor... I hope all is well...

Just a reminder that my UK tour kicks off next Thursday (25th October). You'll find all the dates and links to tickets on the gigs page of my website.

You might like to read a review of my performance at the Harvest Time Blues Festival in Monaghan last month by Blues Revue:

Sean Taylor, the highly acclaimed singer, lyricist, and guitarist from Kilburn, London, was a tour de force and the best acoustic performer at the festival by a mile. Blues Matters' review of Love Against Death, his latest album, recorded in Austin, Texas, concluded, "Every note is musical perfection." Comparisons with the veteran folk/blues singer Michael Chapman are inevitable, but Taylor has an even harder political edge. On "Stand Up" he makes the impassioned plea, "People of the world we have to unite / For the flame of the love we have to ignite / Wipe away the poverty, wipe away the greed / I'd rather die on my feet than live here on my knees." Another highlight was the arrangement of "Raglan Road," inspired by the Irish poet Patrick Kavanagh. Lighter material included an innovative shuffle version of "Sixteen Tons," Texas boogies, "psychedelic blues," and a gentle interpretation of Skip James' "Hard Times." Taylor has a mellifluous voice, at times almost a whisper, with an incredible range when required, such as the anguish and heartache expressed during Richie Haven's "Freedom." Exquisite piano playing was evident on "Biddy Mulligan's," a tribute to the former Kilburn pub but it is Sean's guitar craftsmanship which sets him apart, with beautiful slide technique and the innovative use of capos to produce a distinctive sound and unique style.

That will do nicely!!!

The tour dates are here - share, share and share some more.

See you on the road.

Peace
Sean
