I haven't been in contact for a while as my December & January have been spent recording my new album in Dublin. It's coming along nicely and includes contributions from legendary BJ Cole (Pedal Steel), Vyvienne Long on cello (Damien Rice), Trevor Hutchinson on bass (The Waterboys), Dave Hingerty on drums (The Frames) and Michael Buckley on saxophone (Mary Coughlan). So all good.
Wisdom
The singular lack of doings by God - save in the minds of the deluded - must give all of us cause for concern
Has He had an accident?
Has He lost interest in us?
Has He found someone else?
What if God is playing Sudoku instead?
Our whiny prayers make poor comparison with a game where each choice is guided by reason, and where each decision is either right or wrong.
How do we reclaim His attention?
Must we do something terrible, something that might elicit His wrath?
If I asked God to save everyone else but me, what would He do?
Might He deem this offer, my willingness to sacrifice myself, as something so worthy of redemption that He chooses me, and tells the rest of you to go fuck yourselves?
With God, it’s always a possibility.
Could my offer condemn everyone else to tortured oblivion?
If this should happen, and you find yourselves burning inadvertently in Hell, know that was the very last thing I intended. And, in advance of your eternal torment, I apologize
So. Back to earth
A number of things concern me about modern life:
What if I have been so bad, so evil, that God is waiting for me to die so that He can add my steaming entrails to a casserole that will be served to those recently elevated to Heaven? And should I see this as a reward or a punishment?
What if dogs are being ironic when they obey our commands?
